The project “Support to the improvement of living conditions of most vulnerable IDPs and returnees” is a part of the wider programme of the EU support for the sustainable solutions for internally displaced persons and returnees.

The overall objective of the project is to support migration management in Serbia while using specific objectives of achieving enhanced social inclusion and reintegration of the most vulnerable IDPs and returnees through the improvement of their living conditions and economic empowerment.

Final beneficiaries or the target group of the project are the internally displaced persons and returnees under the Readmission agreement.

In cooperation with the local and national partners and stakeholders, the project activities enhance IDPs and returnees living conditions and enable their economic empowerment which leads towards their greater and better inclusion and reintegration not only into the local communities but into the society in general, boosting their confidence and self-confidence.

Two main project components are being used to achieve this boost – housing component for improving living conditions and income-generating activities for economic empowerment.

Housing component enables at least 30 IDP’s and returnee families (approx. 135 individuals) through the donation of building material packages to qualifying individuals for rehabilitation/reconstruction of their homes, 13 prefabricated houses supplied and installed to qualifying IDP/returnee families, and purchase of 7 village houses.

The income-generating activity enables at least 25 persons directly economically empowered with 25 in-kind grants for the start and/or expansion of existing businesses distributed, along with the business training sessions for securing the sustainability of the supported micro business.

Local action plans present an important concept to accurately identify the needs, plan and manage support to IDP’s and returnees. Hence, this project activity enables local stakeholders to improve their capacities and facilitate the development of solutions and their effective application in practice.
